I have no inside information but I recall Taj saying that in reference to releasing the series around the same time as the biopic in October. The folks involved with the biopic didn’t want the series to interfere with marketing and promotion for the movie. I would think he could release it before the movie if there’s enough time in-between their release.

Thank you for that episode, informative and I had a few good chuckles too!
On the movie potentially stopping at Off The Wall, if the rumour is true, then it could actually work as it would be his trajectory up until becoming the king of pop.
It reminds me of this French book that came out in 1988:

I only read it once when I was maybe 11 or 12 but I do remember how captivating he made the early years seem, up to Triumph. It felt like things couldn’t get any better, but there was a chapter that ended with something like “the best was yet to come”.
There are enough global hits and drama and “plot twists” to get a gripping “pre-Thriller” story with a fantastic narrative, ending with a frustrated Michael Jackson writing his MJ manifesto and a kind of “you’ll never know what hit you!” cliffhanger.
The first movie could show the success and decline of the J5, then the re-explosion with Dancing Machine before the decline again, and then the global successes of Shake Your Body, Blame it on the Boogie, the whole Off the Wall album, or Can you Feel It.

Then, cramming everything from Thriller onwards into one movie could be a challenge if you want to give a cohesive and rounded story.

I’d rather not know about the whole project until it is really coming out soon. The good thing is the wide public is probably clueless about the shenanigans and can get all excited when it does come out.
